Don’t Trust Your Monitor or Printer

Color comparisons can become a problem for the simple reason that computer screens are all calibrated differently and no screen is calibrated for exact color.  It can be done, but is very expensive and specialized equipment is needed.  Let’s not even begin to get into the differences between CRT, LCD, LED, and PLASMA screens.  That would take days.

[two_third_last]Often times designers will create art in CMYK and are seeing the colors one way on their RGB monitor, then a different color when they use their ink jet printer, and then a third way when we produce the exact color match proof print.  This is further complicated due to the fact that both computer monitors and home based personal printers work in RGB color space where as print technology is based on CMYK color space.[/two_third_last]

An example of this, is an order that was proofed and the color match proof print came out olive green.  The proof was delivered and the client freaked, and immediately complained that on his monitors screen it was lime green.  Be aware and never trust your monitor or home based personal printer.

The best way to produce documents with accurate color is to use the Pantone ® Color Publication along with the Pantone ® Color swatches found in your Adobe Swatch libraries.  Regardless of what it looks like on your monitor it should print as it appears in the Pantone ® Color Publication swatches.

Check out our handy Pantone ® Color chart. This chart is a reference guide only. Pantone ® colors on computer screens may vary based on the graphics card and monitor used in your system. For true accuracy use the Pantone ® Color Publication.

Be sure to mention that your job is color critical when placing your order and that you will need a color match proof print for approval.  This prevents negative surprises and allows customers to do final color correction if needed.
